Saalbach and Hinterglemm are separate villages, their centres 4km apart, which have expanded along the floor of their dead-end east-west valley. The ‘ski-circus’ links the two, with lifts and runs on both sides of the valley. The name “ski circus” refers to the layout of the lift-linked ski area, which forms a circuit on the mountains around the two resort villages. The well-planned network of slopes and ski lifts means that the circuit can be ridden either clockwise or anticlockwise, although the latter direction is the easiest.
Away from the pistes, you can choose between a huge variety of indoor activities and of course the ski area is famous for it’s après-ski and numerous events that take place throughout the season.
Saalbach village is a pleasant place for a stroll and café hopping. But for all shopaholics the lovely lakeside resort of Zell am See which isn’t far away might be the better place for shopping and sightseeing (accessible by regular local bus from Saalbach).
